New Zealand pace bowler Neil Wagner will join Northamptonshire after his compatriot Ian Butler retired from all forms of cricket.
“We signed Ian at short notice, after a third overseas player withdrew, mainly for the NatWest T20 Blast but also hoped he would be able to manage playing in some County Championship games as well,” Northamptonshire head coach David Ripley said. “It’s sad to say, that Ian picked up an injury and won’t take any further part this season.”
Wagner is likely to make his County Championship debut against Nottinghamshire in August.
Wagner has represented New Zealand in 15 Test matches and taken 55 wickets at an average of 33.89.
