England pace bowler James Anderson has announced that Lancashire have made a “smart move” in bringing ex-England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff back.

Flintoff is currently training with Lancashire’s first team and could possibly make his Natwest T20 Blast return in the coming weeks.

Anderson, who also plays for Lancashire, believes Flintoff has what it takes to start playing international cricket once again.

If he’s fit, and bowling well, then of course,” Anderson said. “With someone who has been out of the game so long, I guess the issue would be fitness – and getting up to match intensity.

“I think it’s quite a smart move from the coach’s point of view – just to have him around.

“You can see the young guys trying to learn from him and talk to him about the game – to have him around is great, that sort of knowledge to tap into.

“But from a playing point of view, I think we’ll just have to wait and see.”
