Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf has appointed Arif Ali Abbasi as his chief consultant in his first move after being reinstated by the Islamabad High Court.
Abbasi, who used to be the PCB’s chief executive, will advise the board on policies and cricketing affairs.
However, it remains to be seen how long Ashraf and Abbasi hold on to their posts as the Pakistan government recently lodged an appeal at the Supreme Court against the Islamabad High Court’s decision to remove Najam Sethi as PCB chairman.
In addition to losing his post as PCB chairman, the Islamabad High Court also rendered all of Sethi’s decisions useless.
“Cricket is being treated unfairly and (instability) at PCB will derail the game,” Abbasi said. “The success is in consistency and the ongoing legal tussle will bring the country a bad name and nothing else. I know in the present circumstances it is tough but I like to take challenges. I know there are hurdles at the moment but there is a need to tackle them rather than running away.”
