New South Wales assistant coach Chandika Hathurusinghe is set to become Bangladesh’s next head coach following Shane Jurgensen’s resignation last month.

Cricket New South Wales confirmed that Hathurusinghe has left his position as assistant coach and head coach of the Sydney Thunder.

Obviously, we are sorry to lose someone of Chandika’s ability, but it is a great opportunity for him and a great recognition of his skills and personal qualities,” Cricket New South Wales chief executive Andrew Jones said. “He has done an outstanding job with both the NSW Blues and the Thunder, and I am delighted that his ability will be given an opportunity on a global stage.”

This will be Hathurusinghe’s first head coach job at an international level.
