Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara has announced that he is confident the national team can beat England in their upcoming two-Test series next month.

Sangakkara has been preparing for the series against England by playing for Durham.

“We’re always come here fancying our chances,” Sangakkara told Sky Sports. “The more we have toured England, the more we’ve understood as to what is required.

“We came here in 2011 and had a bit of a nightmare two-hour session in Cardiff, but other than that played really well at Lord’s and then at the Rose Bowl, so we know we can compete.

“The real thing is not only to compete, but to get over the line and win a series. It’ll be great to start that off at Lord’s.”
