India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan will captain the Hyderabad Sunrisers in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
It was also announced that West Indies Twenty20 captain Darren Sammy has been appointed as the franchise’s vice-captain.
Dhawan was one of only two players the Sunrisers retained prior to the IPL auction in February, while Sammy was bought back for Rs 3.5 crore (approx. $583,000).
The Sunrisers have been captained by Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara and Australia batsman Cameron White in the past.
