The national team are still demanding a 12 per cent cut of the profits that SLC will make from the World Twenty20
Despite Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley de Silva hinting that the contract dispute between the board and the national team was over, it seems that things have taken a turn for the worse as the situation has escalated into a full-blown crisis.
The national team are still refusing to sign their new central contracts just hours before they depart to Bangladesh for the World Twenty20.
As a result of this, SLC have threatened to send a secondary team to represent the country at the tournament.
The national cricketers are not signing their contracts because they are not being given a percentage cut from the profits SLC receive from International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments.
The players had initially demanded a 20 per cent cut, but have now revealed that they will be satisfied with 12 per cent.
However, SLC remain unwilling to give such a large amount of their profits to the players.
The ICC is expected to pay SLC approximately $8.9 million for the World Twenty20, which means that the players would receive approximately $1.07 million.
But, under the recent proposal SLC submitted to the players, the board wants to pay them $500,000 for participation, $250,000 more if they reach the final and an additional $250,000 if they win the tournament.
