Root broke his thumb during the third ODI against the West Indies
England batsman Joe Root has been ruled out of the upcoming World Twenty20 in Bangladesh after breaking his thumb during the third and final ODI against the West Indies in Antigua.
Following the game, x-rays were taken of Root’s thumb, which showed the damage.
One England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) spokesman revealed that Root’s thumb was “in eight pieces.”
“Bitterly disappointed I’m unable to make the World Cup! Want to wish the boys the best of luck and have every confidence in the whole squad,” Root said via Twitter.
Root, who has returned home, will be replaced by fellow batsman Ian Bell.
