Shami dismissed Rutherford, Fulton and Anderson
India’s pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma took three wickets each to rip through New Zealand’s batting line-up on the third day of the first Test in Auckland.
The pair were well supported by Zaheer Khan, who took two wickets as New Zealand were bowled out for a disappointing 105 in their second innings.
Starting out the day on 130/4, India’s batting duo of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane only managed to add eight runs onto their 79-run partnership before Rahane was caught by Ross Taylor at first slip off the bowling of Tim Southee for 26.
Sharma failed to last much longer as he was clean bowled by Trent Boult for 72 off 120 balls, which included eight boundaries and a six.
India captian Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to have an impact with the bat as he was caught behind off the bowling of Neil Wagner for 10 runs.
Khan managed to make 14 runs before he was also caught behind off the bowling of Wagner.
Ishant Sharma failed to trouble the scorers as he was caught by Boult at mid-off off the bowling of Southee.
India were bowled out for a dismal 202 when Shami was caught by Peter Fulton in the slip region off the bowling of Wagner for just two runs.
Ravindra Jadeja remained stranded on 30 off 44 balls, which included two boundaries and a six.
Wagner was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers with four wickets, while Boult and Southee chipped in with three wickets apiece.
With a lead of 301 in hand, New Zealand decided to bat again, but got off to a horrible start as opening batsman Hamish Rutherford was given out lbw off the bowling of Shami for a golden duck.
Fulton only managed to score five runs before he was caught by Jadeja at short cover off the bowling of Shami.
After scoring a century in the first innings, Kane Williamson failed to have the same impact in the second innings as he was brilliantly caught by Jadeja at short midwicket off the bowling of Khan for three runs.
Following his double century in the first innings, New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum was unlucky to be run out for just one run.
Things went from bad to worse for New Zealand as all-rounder Corey Anderson was clean bowled by Shami for two runs.
Ross Taylor was the standout performer for New Zealand in the second innings as he scored 41 off 73 balls, which included four boundaries and a six, before he was caught by Rahane at gully off the bowling of Khan.
Southee made a quickfire 14 before he was caught by Cheteshwar Pujara at short midwicket off the bowling of Jadeja.
Wicketkeeper BJ Watling made 11 runs before he was clean bowled by Sharma.
Ish Sodhi failed to trouble the scorers as he was caught by Rohit Sharma at second slip off the bowling of Sharma.
Wagner was able to muster 14 runs before he was caught by Jadeja at deep sqaure leg off the bowling of Sharma.
Shami and Sharma picked up three wickets apiece, while Khan snapped up two and Jadeja chipped in with one as New Zealand were bowled out for a dreary 105.
Set a target of 407 to win, India got off to a poor start as opening batsman Murali Vijay was caught behind off the bowling of Southee for 13.
Shikhar Dhawan and Pujara made up for the early loss of Vijay with an unbeaten 51-run partnership before the umpires decided to bring play an end for the day.
Dhawan finished on 49 off 70 balls, which included five boundaries, while Pujara remained undefeated on 22 off 61 deliveries, which included one boundary and a six.
Southee was the only bowler to take a wicket.
India ended the day on 87/1 and will continue batting tomorrow at 11:00 local time or 22:00 GMT (previous day).
