“We had all been extremely surprised at how much pressure was being put on SLC by the big boards”
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced that they have opposed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia’s revamp proposals.
All the members present at the SLC’s special meeting, which included “stakeholders, past captains, past presidents and secretaries of SLC and the sports ministry representative”, along with the board’s executive committee had been “in unanimous agreement with the decision taken by the executive committee – to oppose the revised proposals”.
According to an SLC member, the Big Three had threatened to revoke the board’s International Cricket Council (ICC) membership if they refused to agree with the changes planned in the revamp proposals.
“When those details came to us, we had all been extremely surprised at how much pressure was being put on SLC by the big boards,” the board member said. “We didn’t think [the Big Three] would go to such lengths. In a way that made everyone even more keen to refuse these proposals, on principle.”
