“If he does that, it means Pakistan has more chances of getting strong starts”

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has announced that he fails to see why current skipper Misbah-ul-Haq would be “reluctant to bat at number three”, especially since he has been the national team’s “in-form batsman” for the past couple of months.

“Look, he is our in-form batsman, and is scoring runs,” Yousuf said. “I don’t understand why he is reluctant to bat at number three. If he does that, it means Pakistan has more chances of getting strong starts from the top and it will release pressure on the lower order batsmen.”

Yousuf believes that ul-Haq’s poor technique against pace bowlers and mindset while batting are the two major reasons why he is hesitant about promoting himself up the batting order.

“I think he doesn’t want to bat at number three because his technique is fallible against fast bowlers,” Yousuf said. “His mindset is also not right for the team and it has trickled down to the other players specially the youngsters. He will only come to bat lower down when the ball is softer.”
