“He is a player that every side in the world would want in their team”

England batsman Eoin Morgan has come to the defence of his team-mate Kevin Pietersen, stating that the national selectors would be making a grave mistake if they decided to drop him for the upcoming ODI series against Australia.

Morgan’s comments come at a time where Pietersen’s relationship with team director Andy Flower has allegedly turned frosty once again.

There have even been reports of Flower telling the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that either Pietersen goes or he does.

However, Morgan believes that Pietersen is more of an asset than a curse, and said: “I am a mate of Kevin. He is a player that every side in the world would want in their team.

“There’s no reason why I wouldn’t want him at the Twenty20 World Cup.

“He played in the last one-day series and I captained the side and he was really good in the dressing room.

“He makes a positive contribution.”
