“He is a confident player and I think he is great around the group”
England pace bowler Chris Tremlett has announced that batsman Kevin Pietersen is one of England’s greatest assets, even though he failed to have a major impact during the recently concluded Ashes series, in which England were whitewashed 5-0.
Tremlett’s comments come after the media reported that England team director Andy Flower was going to step down if Pietersen was still part of the national team.
“I haven’t actually seen any of it today but generally in the dressing room it has been pretty good,” Tremlett said. “It has obviously been pretty frustrating for everyone. But with England moving forward I am not sure what is going to happen with Andy Flower and Kevin Pietersen. I guess it is for those guys to sort out. Hopefully everyone can move forward in a positive way and rebuild this England side.
“Obviously it will be a great shame if England cricket team didn’t have Kevin Pietersen in it. He adds a lot to the team with the way he is.
“He is a confident player and I think he is great around the group. He is a very honest person.
“When he goes out to bat for us he is our match-winner. He is the person the opposition fear the most and when guys get him out you can see how happy they are to get that prized wicket as they know he is the man who can take the game away from them.”
