“He looked tired against Sri Lanka and perhaps he needs to be given a break from the sport so that he can refresh himself”

Legendary Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has announced that fellow spinner Saeed Ajmal should consider taking a break from international cricket after he failed to impress during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.

Ajmal only took two wickets during the match, which led to Mushtaq saying that the 36-year-old looked “tired”.

“He is a quality spinner and has proven himself in every format but he looked tired against Sri Lanka and perhaps he needs to be given a break from the sport so that he can refresh himself and come back fresh,” Mushtaq said. “He can still play for some more years and is our match winner.”

Mushtaq also criticised Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq for not interacting with the spinners during matches.

“I think Misbah-ul-Haq also needs to be more proactive especially in Test matches,” he said. “When I played I was always planning every delivery and consulting with my captain. Wasim (Akram) always spoke to me in every over and I don’t see that happening between Saeed and Misbah.”
