Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced that they are ready to host both the Asia Cup and World Twenty20 if the political violence in Bangladesh, who are scheduled to be hosting both events, fails to die down.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan has guaranteed that everything will be back to normal by the time both tournaments get underway on numerous occasions, but that is looking less and less likely to happen.

“We are ready to host the Asia Cup if the ACC [Asian Cricket Council] wants another venue,” SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga told AFP. “We have the grounds and the necessary infrastructure to host an event like that at short notice. We are also ready to host the World Twenty20 if we are asked.”

The ACC will meet in Colombo today to discuss whether it is safe enough to hold both events in Bangladesh or whether they need to be shifted to another country in order to guarantee the safety of the players.
