Gayle tore his left hamstring
West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle is set to miss the remainder of the ODI series against India as he could be out of action for the next four weeks after tearing his hamstring.
Gayle sustained the injury during the first ODI in Kochi when he was run out for zero.
The flamboyant batsman landed awkwardly on his knee when trying to beat Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s direct hit and was subsequently stretchered off the pitch.
Gayle was initially treated at the ground by orthopedic surgeon Dr Bipin Theruvil, but was later admitted to hospital.
The Jamaican big-hitter underwent an MRI scan which revealed a “hamstring tear on his left leg and [a] small blood clot”.
“The injuries will take at least two to four weeks to heal,” Dr Theruvil told PTI.
Gayle is also likely to miss the beginning of West Indies’ tour of New Zealand, which gets underway on December 3 in Dunedin.
