The festival is likely to feature a whole range of South African sport stars
Cricket South Africa have revealed that they are planning to host a festival of cricket to replace the New Year’s Test at Newlands in Cape Town in January 2014.
The festival is scheduled to be held from January 3 to January 6 and is likely to feature some of the country’s best sport stars.
One idea Cricket South Africa are working on is having the national rugby team, the Springboks, play against a Twenty20 match against the national cricket team, the Proteas.
This is likely to be followed by a women’s match.
There are also plans of having all six of South Africa’s domestic franchises play a triple-header on January 4 to announce the start of the domestic Twenty20 competition.
On January 5, Cricket South Africa are considering holding a north-south Twenty20 derby.
SuperSport have already expressed their interest in broadcasting these proposed matches.
