The toss itself was abandoned due to the rain
With the ODI series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand having finished as a 1-1 draw, the focus shifted to the highly-anticipated first Twenty20 International in Pallekele, but to the disappointment of everyone, the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain.
Due to the persistent rain, the captains could not even come out for the toss.
The match was eventually called off approximately an hour and 45 minutes after the scheduled starting time of 7pm.
All three ODIs were affected by rain as well, with the first one being washed out, the second being reduced to 23 overs and the third being cut down to 33 overs.
The second Twenty20 International is scheduled to take place at the same venue on November 21.
