The rain had the last laugh
The highly-anticipated first ODI between England and Australia at Headingley, Leeds, proved to be a major disappointment as the match was abandoned without a single ball being bowled due to heavy persistent rain.
The umpires carried out checks at regular intervals, but three hours after the scheduled start time, the match was called off.
Massive puddles had already begun forming on the pitch by the time the toss was due to take place.
Australia will be looking for retribution in the ODI series after losing the Ashes 3-0.
