The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced that the national team’s tour of New Zealand will now begin in mid-January, two to three weeks earlier than their initial plan of holding the series in early February.

The tour will consist of two Test matches and five ODIs, with the first ODI scheduled to be played on January 19 and the Test series concluding on February 18.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed the schedule as there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding whether India will tour South Africa at the end of year.

With the dates of India’s tour to New Zealand finalised, Cricket South Africa will have a tough time working out a new schedule with the BCCI as their initial itinerary included the third Test in Johannesburg ending on January 19, which will now not be possible as the Indian team will be thousands of miles away.

The West Indies will travel to New Zealand from December 3 to January 15, which gives the Black Caps just four days to recuperate before India come knocking at their door.

NZC chief executive David White confirmed the tour dates and added that he had no clue about any part of India’s tour to South Africa.

“Those dates have been signed off with the BCCI,” White told ESPNcricinfo. “We had been in discussions just before the (BCCI) working committee meeting and worked through the dates and that was ratified at the meeting.”

White was also pleased about the immense revenue NZC stands to make since everybody in the country would want to see their national team take on the number one ODI side.

“It’s brilliant that the Black Caps will be playing five ODIs against the world’s top one-day side given the proximity of the World Cup in 2015,” White said.

Both boards agreed to play five ODIs, which was originally scheduled in the Future Tours Programme (FTP), however, the Test series has been cut down from three Tests to two.

India last toured New Zealand in February to April 2009, which consisted of three Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20 Internationals.

New Zealand whitewashed India in the Twenty20 series, but were defeated 3-1 in the ODI series and 1-0 in the Test series.
