Jayawardene is confident he can help Trinidad and Tobago secure a semi-final spot
Sri Lanka veteran batsman Mahela Jayawardene is all set to join the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after tweeting that he has been contacted by the franchise.
Jayawardene will replace South Africa batsman Davy Jacobs, who has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament following an injury he sustained.
“It’s going to be a long trip to get over there, but I am looking forward to meeting up with the guys as soon as possible and hopefully helping us secure a berth in the CPL semi-finals this coming weekend,” Jayawardene told ESPNcricinfo. “I’ve always loved playing cricket in the Caribbean, so I am really looking forward to a short stint with T&T Red Steel.”
Jayawardene is now the second Sri Lankan player in the tournament with the other being former spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who is currently representing the Jamaica Tallawahs.
