Sharma was part of India’s Under-19 World Cup squad
The Kings XI Punjab have signed Sandeep Sharma and Manan Vohra, both of whom are uncapped players, for the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Vohra is a right-handed batsman, while Sharma is a right-arm medium pace bowler, and both are natives of Punjab.
Sharma was part of India’s victorious Under-19 World Cup squad in 2012 and took four wickets in the final of the tournament to help put him at the top of the team’s wicket takers list with 12 wickets from six matches at a brilliant average of 15.75.
Both players were part of India’s squad in the Quadrangular Under-19 series in Australia and the Under-19 Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur last year.
Vohra was involved in a record chase with Unmukt Chand when India managed to make 164 runs in 12 overs, in which he remained unbeaten on 79 runs from just 35 deliveries.
During the Under-19 Asia Cup, Sharma finished off as India’s top wicket-taker with eight wickets from four matches at an average of 19.25.
Vohra has been involved in two first-class matches, while Sharma has a lot more experience with 12.
Kings XI Punjab COO Col. Arvinder Singh said: “I am very delighted to have a good performers like Aniket, Manan and Sandeep to be part of the Kings XI team and believe they will effectively contribute to the tournament. We wish them all the best and hope that they can utilise this opportunity as a platform to make a mark a niche for themselves as well.”
The Kings XI Punjab play their first IPL match on April 7 against the Pune Warriors.
