Subrayen had an outstanding run during the ICC Under-19 World Cup
Cricket South Africa (CSA) have sentenced two 19-year-old bowlers to rehabilitation after an independent test carried out by the Australian Institute of Sport and the Sports Science Institute of South Africa found that their bowling actions were illegal.
Both Prenelan Subrayen and Solo Nqweni will not be allowed to play any first-class cricket until their rehabilitation process is completed.
“There is a standard protocol we have for dealing with matters of this nature,” CSA general manager Corrie van Zyl said. “In the case of Prenelan the situation has been complicated by the fact that he suffered a bad dislocation of his bowling shoulder several years ago and this has contributed to the current problem. He thus needs to undergo both shoulder rehabilitation as well as rehabilitation of his bowling action.”
Van Zyl added that both players will be under the watchful eye of their respective provincial teams during their rehabilitation process, KwaZulu-Natal for Subrayen and Eastern Province for Nqweni.
CSA will also be assisting in the rehabilitation process, whereby they will provide facilities and personnel from the High Performance Centre.
“We have every confidence that the rehab process will be successful and that these two talented young cricketers will be able to continue their promising careers in the near future,” van Zyl said.
Prior to their actions being deemed illegal, Subrayen, a right-arm off-spinner, had taken six wickets in three first-class matches for KwaZulu-Natal, while pace bowler Nqweni had claimed 33 victims in eight matches for Eastern Province.
