A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: NZC issue apology to Ross Taylor

Moller has apologised to Taylor and vows to investigate the “additional material” brought to light

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have issued an apology to former captain Ross Taylor for the manner in which they handled the whole captaincy dispute, but added that the issue needs to be brought to an end.

Batsman Brendon McCullum was handed control of all three teams after Taylor refused to only be in charge of the Test side.

Taylor made himself unavailable for the ongoing South Africa series after the dispute over the split captaincy, but the former captain insists that he took a break in order to spend more time with his family.

“The board has reviewed all aspects of the captaincy issue and wishes to publicly place on record its apologies to Ross Taylor and his family for the manner in which events have unfolded,” NZC chairman Chris Moller said.

Moller revealed that “additional material” about the captaincy dispute had been brought to NZC’s attention and it would be thoroughly reviewed.

The chairman also noted that it was not necessary for anybody to be sacked, even though the situation has become increasingly ugly.

“No heads are going to roll,” Moller said. “Here were no hanging offences in all of this. Yeah, the ball’s been dropped, absolutely. Could we have done things better? Absolutely. Are we going to learn from those mistakes? Well we hope so. Is there any reason for anybody to have their heads taken off? No, and that is a decision the board has made.”
