The two fans were heartbroken after Sri Lanka lost in the finals
Two Sri Lanka fans committed suicide after witnessing their national team go down against the West Indies in the final of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20.
Police stated that the two fans just could not bear the thought of having watched their team lose in the finals.
17-year-old Ashan Lakshitha, who watched the match on a giant screen at Galle Face promenade, was found hanging on a mango tree.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Mahendran Suresh from the town of Hatton, was found hanging in his bedroom.
Sri Lanka lost the match by 36 runs, leaving the home crowd to look on in utter despair as the West Indies celebrated their triumph.
Sri Lanka have now lost four major ICC tournament finals since 2007, two of them coming in the 50-over World Cup and two in the Twenty20 World Cup.
