Yousuf has not played any international cricket since 2010
Former Pakistan captain, Mohammad Yousuf has taken one step closer to making his international return, after sources confirmed that the veteran batsman passed his fitness test.
The sources, who work within the National Cricket Academy, where Yousuf’s fitness test took place, said that the batsman had satisfied the expectations of national coach, Dav Whatmore and other supporting staff.
One source said: “Yousuf has been working hard on his fitness with a personal trainer, Irfan Sheikh for the last few months and that showed when he took the test.”
The source, also mentioned that Yousuf’s trainer had done an outstanding job in making the cricketer look much more fit and lean.
“He has passed his fitness test, plus he has continued to impress Whatmore with his form with the bat in the nets he has had at the academy in the last two weeks,” the source said.
According to the same source, Whatmore now plans to have a conditioning camp, where practice matches will be held, in which Yousuf can show his form with the bat, before the team heads to tour Sri Lanka in late May.
Yousuf, stated that he did not know his results from the fitness test, but noted that his trainer had been making word extremely hard.
“I have been working in the gym, swimming and jogging besides spending time in the nets. I am feeling good as far as my fitness is concerned and the ball is also now coming on to the bat well,” he said.
Many people think that Whatmore has some plans for Yousuf in the near future, since he made him go through a fitness test.
However, chief selector, Iqbal Qasim has announced that Yousuf will only be considered for selection after he plays in domestic matches.
With Pakistan having a tough schedule ahead of them, the presence and experience of Yousuf may help the younger talents in the team emerge even further.
