A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Latif claims he can bring World XI to Pakistan

Latif says that he can organise a World XI to play in Pakistan

Former Pakistan Captain, Rashid Latif, has announced that he can assemble a World XI to come and play in Pakistan, if the cricket board will be willing to incur the costs.

Latif, made these comments, after chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, said that if Bangladesh decide not to tour the country, he would look for other options, including bringing a World XI, in order to bring international cricket back to Pakistan, for the first time since March 2009.

Ashraf, would be extremely pleased to welcome the World XI, if Latif could assemble a squad.

Speaking to reporters, Ashraf, said: “If Rashid Latif wants to bring a World XI to Pakistan, we would be glad to support him in doing this.”

Latif, however, stated that if he were able to get a group of star cricketers to play in Pakistan, the PCB, would have to take care of the costs.

“If the PCB is willing to take care of the costs involved, I am ready to work on this project. I am confident that a World XI made up of players from different countries can be convinced to come to Pakistan” he said.

According to the former Captain, there are some players, both retired and still active, who would be willing to play in Pakistan.

“I have been associated with the Lashings club in England for some years and they have players on their roll who have said they can come and play. I had floated this idea of a World XI back in January. The board even called me once to inquire about it but then I think they got busy and focused on inviting Bangladesh to Pakistan” he said.

Pakistan, have not seen a home tour since March 2009, after militant gunmen, attacked the Sri Lanka team, which resulted in the deaths of six Pakistan policemen, a van driver. Members of the Sri Lankan squad were also injured in the horrific ordeal.

“If I recall, even Shahid Afridi had said recently he had spoken to players in the Big Bash tournament in Australia who were interested in playing in Pakistan” Latif said.

With the PCB being so desperate to revive international cricket in the country once again, they are looking for any team to play against them, in order to prove that their country is safe enough to host tours once again.
