England batsman, Eoin Morgan, is looking forward to representing the Kolkata Knight Riders in this year’s edition of the IPL.
Morgan, who was recently dropped from the England squad for his poor run of form, stated that he learns a lot from the IPL, and that it is a vital part of global cricket.
“IPL’s a part of cricket I always look forward to. The crowd, passion here is an inspiration and urges all of us to strive for more” he said.
He also claims that the IPL helps him find his touch again, and he usually performs better in other matches, after playing in the tournament.
“I always look to learn a lesson from here and have fared better in competitions after this particular T20 event. Overall, it’s a crucial part of the season as far as I’m concerned” he added.
Morgan, doesn’t believe the IPL causes batsmen to change their natural game, and states that in all forms, it is all about keeping it simple.
“No matter how the format is, things do remain simple to a considerable degree. Even the likes of Sachin (Tendulkar), Jacques Kallis don’t need to change their style of play much taking into account a little bit of expansive the game allows batters to be” Morgan said.
Many batsmen have found the Eden Gardens pitch in Kolkata a tricky surface to play on, but, Morgan, feels as if the Knight Riders handled the conditions very well last year, and hope that they continue to do so this year as well.
“It has some similarities with the one at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Now we had certainly played skillfully during most matches here last time and would like to continue that with some sort of a plan. At the same time though, you got to admit that pitch will not always work on your favour” he said.
With the IPL starting next week, Morgan, will be hoping to find his form once again, and go back to representing England, after the conclusion of the tournament.
