Former India leg-spinner, Amit Mishra, has announced that he feels spin bowlers need to improve their skills in Twenty20 International cricket.
Mishra, who is preparing to play for the Deccan Chargers in this year’s edition of the IPL, feels spin bowlers are more of a target for batsmen than pace bowlers.
“Spinners have to do more hard work than speedsters in T20. Spinners need to have lot of skills and have to think fast and work on identifying the weaknesses of the opponents. If you have skills you can prove yourself even on batsmen friendly wickets” he said.
According to Mishra, the problem that most spin bowlers have, is that they are prone to giving away too many runs.
“Spin bowlers always need to work on positive things and regularly need to improve their bowling skills” Mishra said.
He also added that spin bowlers needed to approach things with a positive attitude and believe that they can better their game.
“For a spin bowler to prove himself … it is very important to be skillful. One needs to have belief in himself and always need to try to improve their bowling for getting better performance” he said.
Mishra, has not played for India since their embarrassing defeat against England in 2011, and is determined to use the tournament to prove that he belongs back into the team.
When asked about the chances of being re-selected into the Indian squad again, Mishra said: “I always try to give my best. I play with that motive whenever I get a chance. I believe in giving a better performance than the previous matches. IPL-IV is past and I am looking forward to IPL-V. Whatever opportunity I get, I try to prove myself, whether it is batting, bowling or fielding.”
