Pakistan batsman Saud Shakeel: “The ODI World Cup is coming up [next year], and I will aim to perform well to get the selectors’ attention”

Pakistan batsman Saud Shakeel said he is determined to perform well in order to capture the selectors’ attention for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
The left-hander has not featured in an ODI since the 2025 Champions Trophy and holds an average of 27.20 across 19 matches in the format.
With the global tournament in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia still over a year away, the 31-year-old is focused on making the strongest possible case for himself when the squad is eventually announced.
“The ODI World Cup is coming up [next year], and I will aim to perform well to get the selectors’ attention,” Shakeel was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Shakeel is currently playing in Pakistan’s three-Test series against England and has scored 132 runs in two matches, which includes a top score of 97, at an average of 33.
Pakistan made an abundance of changes for the 3rd Test in Birmingham, sending seven players home and bringing in seven more, including five who are uncapped at the Test level.
The 3rd Test will get underway on September 9.
