Veteran Pakistan opener Abid Ali believes Babar Azam is still the country’s “batting cornerstone” and should continue to be backed and trusted.
He stressed that the 31-year-old also needs to be given the right role in order to shine at the internatonal level.
Azam’s batting position has changed significantly, especially in T20Is, where he used to be an opener before being shifted to the number three spot. Now, he bats at number four.

Azam was recently reappointed Test captain and led the men in green in their two-Test series against the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, where he accumulated 193 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 96.50.
He and the Pakistan team will be back in action soon as they will play three Tests against England from August 19 to September 13.
