Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir has revealed that one of his priorities, should he become chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), would be to reform domestic cricket.
Amir said he would introduce better match fees and prize money so players would not have to worry about their finances.
He added that such changes would allow cricketers in the country to “play with a free mind”.
“I want to invest properly in domestic cricket – better match fees, better prize money. A player earning PKR 5,000 a day can’t even cover a meal in the hotel they stay in. How can he play freely?” he was quoted as saying by Khel Shel.
“When players know they’re financially settled in domestic cricket, they won’t fear failure. They’ll play with a free mind for Pakistan, and even if they fail once, they’ll know they still have a career.
“Fix domestic cricket first. Remove fear. Only then performance will come.”
The Pakistan team are now preparing for a two-Test series against the West Indies, which will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to August 6.
They will then head to England to play three Tests from August 19 to September 13.
