Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Usman Khan has outlined his role in the team, stating that he adapts according to the match situation by either finishing a chase or anchoring the innings when batting first.
Usman emphasised that his responsibilities are dictated by the team’s plans, and he remains committed to fulfilling whatever role is assigned to him.
The 31-year-old has mostly played T20I cricket to date, having scored 474 runs in 38 matches at an average of 18.96 and a strike-rate of 121.85.
“My role depends entirely on the team’s planning… If chasing, my job is to finish. If batting first, I try to stay as long as possible. I always play according to the team’s plans,” Usman was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X.
Usman was in phenomenal form in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 389 runs in 13 matches for the Hyderabad Kingsmen, which included a century and three fifties, at an average of 35.36 and a strike-rate of 162.76.
Despite his brilliant campaign in PSL 11, he was not selected for Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh or three-match ODI series against Australia.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a tour of the West Indies, which will comprise two Tests in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to August 6.
They will then travel to England for three Tests from August 19 to September 13.
