Former Pakistan pace bowler Tanvir Ahmed believes spinner Usman Tariq can be a “secret weapon” for the men in green.
Tariq has skyrocketed in popularity lately as he has taken plenty of wickets with his unusual bowling action.
So far, the 28-year-old has picked up 18 wickets in nine T20Is at an average of 11.16 and an economy rate of 6.66.
Tanvir urged the team management to continue backing Tariq to help him build confidence and gain experience.
“He is a secret weapon. Let him gain confidence and experience,” he was quoted as saying on Facebook.
During the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL), Tariq represented the Quetta Gladiators and claimed nine wickets in 10 games at an average of 33.55 and an economy rate of 7.55.
He was not included in Pakistan’s squad for the tour of Bangladesh, where they were whitewashed 2-0 in the Test series.
He also didn’t play in the three-match ODI series against Australia, which the men in green won 2-1.
Next up for Pakistan will be a two-Test tour of the West Indies, which will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to August 6.
