Former Australia fast bowler Geoff Lawson believes “Pakistan missed a bit of a trick” by parting ways with head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie.
Kirsten was appointed as white-ball head coach in April 2024, while Gillespie took charge of the Test side. However, Kirsten resigned just a few months later in October 2024, with Gillespie also stepping down shortly after in December 2024.
Lawson noted that the duo are “excellent coaches” and suggested Pakistan would have benefited from retaining them for a longer period.
“The turnover of Kirsten and Gillespie – they are two excellent coaches, two really good people and I think Pakistan missed a bit of a trick by not having those two guys for longer,” he told PakPassion.
Mike Hesson is currently Pakistan’s limited-overs head coach, while former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has taken charge of the red-ball side.
Pakistan are touring Bangladesh for a two-Test series, with the first match having begun on May 8 in Mirpur. The 2nd Test is scheduled to start on May 16 in Sylhet.
