Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal thinks it is unfair that Salman Ali Agha was appointed T20I captain.
While Akmal refrained from naming who he believes should have been given the leadership role instead, he did have words of praise for the 32-year-old, , describing him as Pakistan’s “best Test and ODI player” at the moment.
Salman, who has scored runs steadily across all formats, has recently adapted well to T20I cricket as he has produced a string of impactful innings in the middle order.
“He’s our best Test and ODI player, but making him T20I captain has been unfair,” Akmal was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Salman is currently leading the men in green in the 2026 T20 World Cup and has mustered 55 runs in four matches at an average of 13.75 and a strike-rate of 144.73.
He has also taken one wicket at an average of 10 and an economy rate of five.
Pakistan progressed to the Super Eights after winning their group stage games against the Netherlands, United States of America and Namibia. Their only loss came against India.
Pakistan’s Super Eights campaign began with a washed out game against New Zealand, while their next match against England ended in a two-wicket defeat.
The men in green now face a must-win situation when they go up against Sri Lanka on February 28 in Pallekele.
