Legendary Pakistan six-hitter Shahid Afridi believes ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has a “bigger fan following” than fellow left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir.
Shaheen is Pakistan’s pace spearhead across all three formats and is renowned globally as one of the premier new-ball bowlers for his ability to strike early – often claiming wickets in the first over of matches.
Amir also used to be one of Pakistan’s most exciting pace bowlers, but is now retired from international cricket and takes part in T20 leagues around the world.
“Shaheen Shah Afridi has a bigger fan following than Mohammad Amir,” Shahid was quoted as saying on Facebook.
Afridi is currently representing Pakistan in the 2026 T20 World Cup, where he has taken three wickets in three matches at an average of 33.66 and an economy rate of 11.22.
The men in green advanced to the Super Eights after defeating the Netherlands, United States of America and Namibia in the group stage. Their only loss so far has come against India.
Pakistan’s Super Eights campaign started on a disappointing note as their match against New Zealand was washed out.
They will be back in action on February 24 when they take on England in Pallekele.
