Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif believes Salman Ali Agha could be a good choice for ODI captain in the future.
Salman, who currently leads the T20I team, has impressed with a string of positive results in recent months. Under his leadership, Pakistan defeated South Africa 2-1 before going on to win a T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Most recently, they completed a 3-0 whitewash of Australia in Lahore, further strengthening Salman’s captaincy credentials.
Despite Salman’s growing reputation as a capable leader, a change in ODI captaincy appears unlikely for now, as Shaheen Shah Afridi only took charge in October 2025. Since his appointment, Afridi has guided Pakistan to a 2-1 series win over South Africa and a 3-0 victory against Sri Lanka.
“Salman Ali Agha could be made captain for the one-day format; Salman Ali Agha is one of the best players in one-day format and Test cricket,” Latif was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Salman is now captaining Pakistan in the 2026 T20 World Cup and has scored 55 runs in four matches at an average of 13.75 and a strike-rate of 144.73.
The men in green have made it to the Super Eights after beating the Netherlands, United States of America and Namibia in the group stage. Their only loss came against India.
Pakistan’s group stage campaign will get underway on February 21 when they go up against New Zealand in Colombo.
