Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has revealed that he and left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi always approach their battles aggressively when facing each other.

Rizwan aims to score freely off Afridi’s bowling, while the fast bowler looks to claim the 33-year-old’s wicket, making for intense duels.

These contests are particularly prominent during the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where Rizwan captains the Multan Sultans, who are now set to become a Rawalpindi franchise after an ownership change, while Afridi leads the Lahore Qalandars.

“In PSL, when Shaheen comes, he attacks me, and I attack him,” Rizwan said in an interview with Cricket Australia as quoted by A Sports.

Since Rizwan hasn’t been part of Pakistan’s T20I team for quite some time, he wasn’t picked for the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup.

Afridi, on the other hand, is in the squad and has taken three wickets in three matches at an average of 33.66 and an economy rate of 11.22.

Pakistan are through to the Super Eight after ending the group stage with three wins and one loss.

Their next match will be a Super Eight clash against New Zealand on February 21 in Colombo.
