Pakistan batting star Babar Azam is determined to deliver an ICC trophy for his country and is targeting the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup as the stage to do it.
Azam will need to play a pivotal role with the bat if Pakistan are to mount a serious title challenge. So far, the 31-year-old has scored 66 runs in three matches at an average of 22 and a strike-rate of 115.78.
Having featured in three T20 World Cup finals and suffered heartbreak twice, most recently in 2022, Azam is desperate to guide Pakistan to another World Cup triumph, replicating the glory of their 2009 title win.
“My dream is to win an ICC trophy. We reached the finals twice but lost. I want to lift the ICC trophy and see Pakistan happy,” he was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In the 2026 T20 World Cup, Pakistan kickstarted their campaign with consecutive wins over the Netherlands and United States of America before falling to India.
They will look to get things back on track when they face Namibia on February 18 in Colombo.
