Former Pakistan red-ball head coach Azhar Mahmood said batsman Babar Azam had a weakness against left-arm spinners, but has worked hard to rectify it.
His vulnerability to left-arm spin has been highlighted time and again, as he has frequently fallen to bowlers of that variety.
On top of that, the 31-year-old has been struggling to score runs consistently, which further added to his woes.
Despite all the problems Azam has faced, Mahmood is confident the Lahore-born batsman “will be back to his best” soon.
“Babar Azam will be back to his best. He has worked hard on his weakness, he was struggling against left-arm spinners and we have worked on it,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In Pakistan’s recent T20I series against Australia in Lahore, Azam amassed 76 runs, which included a top score of 50 not out, at an average of 38 and a strike-rate of 124.59.
He is now taking part in the 2026 T20 World Cup and has made scores of 15 and 46 against the Netherlands and United States of America respectively.
Having won both those matches, Pakistan will look to maintain their perfect start when they go up against arch-rivals India on February 15 in Colombo.
