Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha likes what he has seen from young speedster Mohammad Wasim Jnr, noting that he is “turning into a proper frontline bowler” for the national team.
Wasim Jnr has often been used as a backup option in Pakistan’s bowling attack, but he has recently begun making full use of the chances that have come his way.
During the ODI series against South Africa, he featured in one match and claimed one wicket at an average of 48.
His performances improved markedly against Sri Lanka, picking up four wickets in two ODIs at an average of 24.25.
However, his form dipped during the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, where he managed just one wicket in three games at an average of 91 and an economy rate of 7.58.
The 24-year-old from North Waziristan bounced back strongly on Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka, taking five wickets in two T20Is at an average of 12.20 and an economy rate of 11.43.
“The way he’s developing, he’s turning into a proper frontline bowler,” Salman was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Wasim Jnr was picked for Pakistan’s recent T20I series against Australia, but wasn’t included in the playing XI for any of the three matches.
The men in green are now taking part in the 2026 T20 World Cup, but Wasim Jnr did not make the cut when the squad was announced.
Pakistan won their opening match against the Netherlands by three wickets and then proceeded to take down the United States of America by 32 runs.
The men in green will be back in action on February 15 when they face India in Colombo.
