Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes spin-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz “would have broken plenty of records by now” if he had been batting at number four.

Nawaz has earned a reputation as a reliable lower order batter, often providing crucial runs in the closing stages of an innings.

However, Latif suggested that a promotion to number four and a consistent run in that position could see Nawaz regularly producing big scores for the men in green.

“Mohammad Nawaz is a genuine batter; if Nawaz had been made to bat at number four, he would have broken plenty of records by now,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

During Pakistan’s recent three-match T20I series against Australia, Nawaz scored 29 runs at an average of 29 and a strike-rate of 138.09.

He also took seven wickets, which included a five-wicket haul, at an average of 7.71 and an economy rate of 5.40.

Nawaz is currently representing Pakistan in the 2026 T20 World Cup and started with six runs and two wickets in the three-wicket win over the Netherlands.

Against the United States of America, he made five runs and took one wicket.

Pakistan’s next match will be their highly-anticipated clash against India on February 15 in Colombo.
