Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq has downplayed the difficulty of overcoming bad form, saying “real struggle is when you have no money for food or doctors”.
The 28-year-old has quickly gained recognition as Pakistan’s latest spin sensation, drawing attention not only for his wicket-taking ability but also for his unorthodox bowling action, which has been officially deemed legal despite much scepticism.
Tariq recently impressed during the three-match T20I series against Australia, taking two wickets in the one game he played, further strengthening his reputation as a promising addition to Pakistan’s spin department.
“People call it a ‘struggle phase.’ I call it a ‘process.’ Real struggle is when you have no money for food or doctors,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Tariq is now part of Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup, but he wasn’t included in the playing XI for the team’s opening game against the Netherlands, which they won by three wickets.
The men in green will return to action very soon as they are scheduled to face the United States of America on February 10 in Colombo.
