Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has hit out at the high expectations placed on national players, saying that “there is no forgiveness” if someone has a “bad day.”

Rauf pointed out that players are often expected to “perform like robots,” even though fans tend to forget they are human beings and cannot deliver perfect performances in every match.

The 32-year-old admitted he doesn’t enjoy being criticised but said he focuses on training hard and working on his mistakes to continue improving as a cricketer.

“Humaray lıye koi maafi nahi hoti (there is no forgiveness for us) we are expected to perform like robots but we are human beings and we can have bad days,” he was quoted as saying by NDTV.

“The main thing is you don’t give up. You don’t die from a bad day. We just keep belief in our skills and keep on working on rectifying mistakes but as a professional cricketer any bowler can have a bad day.

“No player likes to be criticised, yes everyone has his opinion but like I said for us, there is no forgiveness. You might have 10 good matches and one bad game and everyone will remember the bad game.”

Rauf did not take part in Pakistan’s recent T20I tour of Sri Lanka as he was representing the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL), where he remains the highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 16.75 and an economy rate of 8.23.

Despite his exceptional performance in the BBL, Rauf was left out of Pakistan’s squad for their upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia in Lahore, which is scheduled to take place between January 29 and February 1.
