Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan believes left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir is a smarter bowler in the death overs then ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Amir has retired from international cricket, but Afridi is currently Pakistan’s pace spearhead in all three formats.

Explaining what makes Amir smarter than Afridi, Azam highlighted that Amir’s strength lies in his wide range of variations and tactical awareness under pressure. Afridi, meanwhile, can unleash pinpoint yorkers that make him highly effective at the back end of an innings.

“Shaheen is very good with his yorkers in the death overs, but Amir bhai is even smarter because he bowls off-cutters, leg-cutters, and slow bouncers,” Azam was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Afridi was recently involved in the Big Bash League (BBL), where he took two wickets in four matches for the Brisbane Heat at an average of 76.50 and an economy rate of 11.19. However, his campaign was cut short by a knee injury.

He also missed Pakistan’s T20I tour of Sri Lanka due to his BBL commitments.

It remains to be seen if Afridi will recover in time for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia, which is scheduled to take place in Lahore from January 29 to February 1.
