Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson explained that batsman Hasan Nawaz was sent back to domestic cricket to give him more time in the middle and help him regain form.
Hesson acknowledged that the 23-year-old has been struggling lately, which prompted the decision.
Nawaz was dropped for Pakistan’s ODI series against Sri Lanka, as well as the T20I tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. He was also left out for the T20I tour of Sri Lanka.
Despite his current absence from the national team, Hesson emphasised that he remains fully aware of the young batter’s talent and potential.
“He’s a talented player who needs time in the middle,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Nawaz is currently featuring in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where he has scored 174 runs in seven matches for the Chattogram Royals at an average of 29 and a strike-rate of 104.19.
The Islamabad-born cricketer has also contributed with the ball, picking up three wickets at an average of 12 and an economy rate of 7.20.
Pakistan’s next assignment will see them take on Australia in a three-match T20I series in Lahore from January 29 to February 1.
