Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has backed Rohail Nazir as the ideal choice for Pakistan’s back-up wicketkeeper-batsman role.

One of Pakistan’s emerging prospects, Nazir has demonstrated his talent on multiple occasions.

During the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QeA) Trophy, he did extremely well with the bat, amassing 460 runs in five matches for Islamabad Region, which included two centuries and two fifties, at an average of 65.71.

He then proceeded to take part in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) competition and made 160 runs in seven games for Oil & Gas Development Company Limited, which included a top score of 81, at an average of 26.66.

The 24-year-old from Islamabad is now featuring in the President’s Trophy Grade-I tournament and has scored 42 runs in four games for Oil & Gas Development Company Limited at an average of seven. For context, this includes the team’s ongoing match against Sahir Associates.

“Rohail Nazir should be the back-up wicketkeeper of Pakistan,” Salman was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Nazir did not take part in Pakistan’s recent T20I tour of Sri Lanka, which concluded as a 1-1 draw.

The men in green will be back in action very soon as they are scheduled to take on Australia in a three-match T20I series in Lahore from January 29 to February 1.
