Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has hailed the impact part-time off-spinner Saim Ayub can have with both the old and new ball.

Ayub’s consistent success in taking wickets has earned him an expanded role as a bowler in recent times.

During the T20I series against South Africa, he took two wickets in three matches at an average of 18 and an economy rate of 7.20.

As for the three ODIs, he finished with two wickets at an average of 45.50.

Next up was a T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, during which Ayub claimed three wickets in five games at an average of 27.33 and an economy rate of 6.83.

“We have Saim as well; he is outstanding with the new and old ball,” Salman was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Pakistan are now taking on Sri Lanka in a T20I series in Dambulla, but Ayub did not bowl in the 1st T20I, which the men in green won by six wickets.

With the second match washed out due to persistent rain, Pakistan will look to seal a 2-0 series win in the 3rd T20I, which will be held on January 11.
