Former England captain Nasser Hussain said Pakistan opening batsman Saim Ayub “is already making big waves” even though he is still in the infancy stages of his international career.
Ayub has been a force to be reckoned at certain periods in his international career as he has shown just how much talent he possesses and how destructive he can be.
During Pakistan’s home series against South Africa, he began on a high as he smashed 108 runs in three T20Is, which included an unbeaten 71, at an average of 54 and a strike rate of 150.
He didn’t take his foot off the gas in the three ODIs as he amassed 169 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 56.33.
After the South Africa series, Pakistan took on Sri Lanka in three ODIs, but Ayub couldn’t maintain his momentum as he made 39 runs in two games at an average of 19.50.
The 23-year-old then featured in Pakistan’s T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, and finished with 118 runs at an average of 23.60 and a strike-rate of 114.56.
Having seen the damage the Karachi native is capable of inflicting on opposition teams, Hussain acknowledged that there is something very special about Ayub.
“Despite being in the nascent stage of his international career, Saim Ayub is already making big waves,” he was quoted as saying on X, formerly known as Twitter.
